On Sunday 9th August, The Comedy About Spies celebrated its gala night at London's Adelphi Theatre. The Comedy About Spies is written by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre, who are known for The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, and The Goes Wrong Show among others.
The cast consisted of Mischief stars and founding members, including Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, Dave Hearn, Bryony Corrigan, Chris Leask, Nancy Zamit, and Greg Tannahill.
The Comedy About Spies is set in 1961 and takes inspiration from the world of Cold War spies and espionage, which makes the production brilliantly chaotic.
The classic Mischief style is a massive part of the production through their trademark physical comedy, and they make it look completely effortless despite requiring very precise choreography. The set plays a huge part in the fun, while every cast member brings their own personality and comic style to their character.
The script is packed with witty one-liners, innuendos and wonderfully ridiculous moments, with laughs coming consistently throughout. As you would expect from Mischief, the comic timing is sharp, with every mishap, misunderstanding and visual gag landing when it needs to.
Of course, Mischief have created a show that is fast-paced, clever and gloriously silly. It is a spy adventure that is definitely licensed to thrill and, more importantly, will make you laugh.
A hugely entertaining night of comedy and another great example of why Mischief do this style of theatre so well.
