Terms and conditions

These are the rules for using Sounds & Stage. They are written to be read. Last reviewed October 2026. How we handle personal information is in our privacy policy.

1. Who we are

Sounds & Stage is published by Tim Todd ("we", "us"). You can reach us through the contact page or at tim@soundsandstage.com. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

2. Reading the site

The site is free to read. You may share links to our pages and quote short extracts with a link back. Please do not copy whole articles, scrape pages in bulk, or use the site in a way that slows it down for others. To read our data automatically, use the data API.

3. Our content

Articles, reviews, guides, ratings, photographs we have taken, the layout and the database as a whole belong to us or our contributors and are protected by copyright and database right. Production photographs and logos belong to the people who made them and are used for news and review purposes, often supplied by press offices. If you own something we have used and want it changed or removed, tell us and we will act promptly.

Reviews and ratings are opinions. We try to be accurate and fair, and we publish corrections. Read how we work in our editorial policy.

4. Information is a guide, not a promise

Dates, prices, running times, age guidance, cast, seat notes, accessibility details and travel advice change often and are checked by people. Always confirm with the theatre or ticket seller before you book or travel. We do not guarantee that information is complete or up to date, and we are not responsible for decisions you make because of it.

5. Tickets, affiliate links and third parties

We do not sell theatre tickets. Links to ticket sellers, theatres and other sites are for your convenience. Some are affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you, and it never changes a review or rating. Once you leave our site, the seller's own terms, prices and refund rules apply. We are not a party to your purchase and are not responsible for other sites.

6. What you send us

If you post a comment, review, photograph, job advert, supplier listing, competition entry or press submission, you must have the right to share it and it must be lawful, honest and not abusive, misleading, spam or someone else's private information. You keep ownership, but you give us a free, worldwide licence to publish, edit for length and clarity, and keep it on the site. We may refuse, edit or remove anything, and may remove accounts or listings that break these terms. Reviews must be about your own experience, and you must not post reviews for payment or for a business you work for without saying so.

7. Competitions

Each competition has its own rules on its page, including the closing date and how the winner is chosen and told. Entry is free unless it says otherwise. Prizes are not exchangeable for cash. Competitions are run by us and are not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Facebook, Instagram or any other social platform.

8. Jobs, suppliers and press listings

Adverts and directory listings are submitted by the advertiser and checked by us before they appear, but we do not vouch for employers, suppliers or press contacts and we are not a party to any arrangement made through the site. Take the usual care: never pay to apply for a job, and check who you are dealing with. Listing details must be accurate and may be edited or removed.

9. Advertising and sponsorship

Paid placements are labelled. Advertising and sponsorship do not buy coverage, ratings or changes to our reviews.

10. The data API

Our data API and API packages are covered by these extra terms.

  • Licence. We give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the data in apps, websites and services, within the limits of your package.
  • Credit. Show a visible link back to the relevant Sounds & Stage page next to any of our data you display, unless your written licence says otherwise.
  • No resale. You may not sell, sub-license or publish the dataset itself, build a competing copy of it, or use it to train a service that republishes it. Ask us about a data licence for bulk or white-label use.
  • Fair use. Stay within your rate limit, cache responses, and do not try to bypass limits, share keys or put a key in public code. We may slow, suspend or revoke access that harms the service or breaks these terms.
  • Keys. Keep your key private. You are responsible for requests made with it. Tell us at once if it leaks and we will replace it.
  • Prices and billing. Paid packages are billed monthly in pounds sterling, in advance, by invoice. Prices may change on 30 days' notice. You can cancel at any time with 30 days' notice, and fees already paid for the current month are not refunded unless we cut off your access without good reason.
  • Changes. We aim to keep version 1 stable and will give notice before any breaking change. We may add fields and resources at any time.
  • No guarantee. The data is provided "as is". We do not promise it is error-free or always available, and we are not liable for losses from using it, including lost sales or profits.

11. Our responsibility

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, we are not liable for loss that was not a foreseeable result of our breach, for business losses, or for problems caused by things outside our control. The site is provided as it is, and may be unavailable from time to time for maintenance or faults.

12. Changes and law

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they were last reviewed, and using the site after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, although if you are a consumer in another part of the UK you keep the right to use your local courts.
